A WDO inspection, often called a termite inspection, checks for signs of wood-destroying insects or organisms—like termites, carpenter ants, and wood-decaying fungi—that can quietly wreak havoc on a home’s structure. Unlike general home inspections, only licensed pest professionals can conduct WDO inspections.
If you're using a VA loan, a WDO inspection is required before closing. FHA loans may also require one, especially in high-risk areas. Even if it’s not mandatory, getting a WDO inspection is a smart move—it can uncover hidden damage that could cost thousands down the road.
Did you know? Termites cause over $5 billion in property damage every year in the U.S. alone — and most of it isn’t covered by homeowners insurance!
Your Imperial Pest Prevention WDO inspector is a state-licensed professional in Florida. A proper WDO inspection includes a thorough visual assessment of the property’s interior, exterior, attic, and crawl spaces (if accessible) to identify signs of termites and other wood-destroying organisms.
Exterior Inspection: The inspector checks for visible termite activity (e.g., mud tubes), signs of infestation, and conditions that may attract pests—such as wood-to-soil contact, improper grading, stucco below grade, leaky gutters, or overhanging branches.
Interior Inspection: Key areas like baseboards, drywall, window/door frames, and garages are inspected for evidence of infestation. The inspector may tap, probe, or sound wood to detect damage.
Attic & Crawl Space: If accessible, these areas are checked for activity in roof framing, trusses, floor joists, and subflooring. Some areas may not be visible or reachable during inspection. Throughout the process, the inspector looks for live insects, dead termites, wings, frass (termite droppings), mud tubes, wood damage, and signs of previous treatments.

Note: WDO inspections are visual only. Hidden damage may still exist and cannot be ruled out.
